Aboriginal Head Start – Cook/Support

Job Description

The Cook is responsible for preparing top quality meals and snacks according to menu specifications based on prepared menu plan.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory for ongoing food program operation
  • Develops food/menu plans for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon stack in conjunction with Canada’s Food Guide and any special dietary/ allergy requirements with direction from their Team Lead
  • Occasional dinner planning and preparing for evening events
  • Determines food quantity and variety, allocates costs and proper on-site storage
  • Ensures that meals and snacks are cooked and served on time in accordance with schedules
  • Disinfect and sanitize, clean kitchen area
  • Daily Laundry 
  • Participate in professional Development

 

 Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work in a team setting, take initiative, and possess a love for children
  • Ability to manage time appropriately
  • Ability to use a computer and communicate orally and writing
  • Lift and moving equipment and boxes up to 25 lbs.

 

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to completion of grade 12, supplemented by work or training in the food planning and preparation area
  • Two years of experience as a chef/cook, or equivalent in training/experience 
  • Current Food Safe Certificate
  • WHIMIS
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid Certificate relevant to children
  • Willingness to obtain Responsible Adult Certification (20-hour course)
  • Criminal Record Review
  • Valid BC drivers license (class 4 an asset)

 

Hours of Work 

  • 30 hours
  • May include extra hours classroom support

 

Wage 

  • during probationary period: $26.50
  • After successful completion of probationary period: $27.50
