Title: Aboriginal Head Start Daycare Lead
Reports to: ECD Supervisor
Hours of Work: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday with a 1-hour lunch break
Term Position: Permanent Full-time as long as funding is secure
Salary: $50,960 (with three months probationary period)
The AHS ECE Worker is responsible for planning and delivering age-appropriate programming that supports the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of children. This role emphasizes culturally sensitive care and education, empowering children through programming that aligns with the nine core components of the Aboriginal Head Start mandate.
Job Duties:
- Provide cultural curriculum and educational programming for young children, in support of their spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth, consistent with philosophy and guidelines stated in policy and procedure manual and follows the AHS Principals and Guideline
- Carry out developmentally appropriate activities that foster social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and creative development.
- Always ensure safe and active supervision of children
- Implementing both indoor and outdoor activities for young children including some family events and parent/elder luncheons
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the TFCS Policy and Procedure manual and the AHS Daycare Manual
- Assist with quarterly and year-end reporting and work plans
- Responsible for adhering to the budget, ensuring financial resources are allocated appropriately and expenses are tracked
- Maintain consistent communications with Supervisors and Executive Director(s) via email, Teams, and meetings as required
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization during all interactions with staff, parents and/or guardians and other service providers
- Ability to work with Aboriginal families, willingness to share and participate in cultural activities and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Establish and maintain respectful, positive support and relationships with all children, families, and staff
- Has a clear understanding of wise practices relating to the development and care of children
- Ensure that all areas at the Centre are clean, safe, and orderly
- Ensure program compliance with licensing, health, and safety regulations
- Ability to coach and support AHS Team, and provide guidance in day-to-day tasks and mentor AECE to fulfill requirements in your absence and for their professional development
- Maintaining confidentiality of all information related to the entre, the children and their families and all staff
- Prepare observations and recordings for children and send reports to parents as needed
- Consistently dependable for shifts, building solid routines with the team
- Attend all staff meetings and the Annual General Meeting
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions
- Assist with other duties as required
Qualifications:
- A Valid ECE Certificate or Diploma and License to Practice and/or ECE Certificate in BC
- Demonstrated background in Early Childhood Development
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture, teachings and practices
- Strong leadership skills that promote collaboration and learning
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Understanding of the Community Care Facilities Act and Licensing Regulations in BC
- A valid Child Care First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain
- A clear Criminal Record Check for vulnerable persons
- TB test clearance
- Valid class 5 driver’s license
Start Date: ASAP
