The Friendship Centre Cub House, operated by Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre Society, is part of this commitment, offering culturally safe, inclusive, and Indigenous-led early learning opportunities that support children, families, and community wellness.
The Friendship Centre Cub House is funded through the Aboriginal Head Start Association of British Columbia (AHSABC), supporting high-quality early childhood programs rooted in Indigenous culture, language, family involvement, health promotion, nutrition, and social support.
Position Summary
Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre Society is seeking a respected Elder / Knowledge Sharer to join the Friendship Centre Cub House team.
The Elder / Knowledge Sharer plays a vital role in supporting children’s cultural identity, sense of belonging, and connection to Indigenous traditions, teachings, language, and community. Through storytelling, cultural teachings, mentorship, land-based learning, and relationship-building, the Elder / Knowledge Sharer helps create a culturally rich and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.
This position provides cultural guidance and support to the Friendship Centre Cub House and contributes to the integration of Indigenous values, knowledge, and practices throughout programming and community engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities
Cultural Teaching and Knowledge Sharing
• Share Indigenous teachings, stories, traditions, values, and cultural knowledge with children, families, and staff.
• Support the integration of Indigenous culture, language, and traditional practices into daily programming.
• Lead cultural activities, storytelling sessions, seasonal teachings, crafts, and land-based learning experiences.
• Encourage children’s understanding of identity, belonging, respect, and community.
Mentorship and Relationship Building
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor for children, families, and staff.
• Foster respectful relationships and provide guidance grounded in Indigenous values and teachings.
• Support intergenerational learning opportunities and cultural connections within the community.
• Participate in special events, celebrations, and cultural gatherings.
Program and Community Support
• Collaborate with educators and staff to strengthen culturally responsive programming.
• Provide cultural guidance and insight to support program development and activities.
• Assist with community engagement initiatives and family events.
• Support a welcoming and culturally safe environment for all participants.
Qualifications
Required
• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, teachings, and community values.
• Recognized by their Nation, House Group, Clan, family, or community as a respected Knowledge Sharer, Elder, or cultural resource person.
• Experience working with children, youth, families, or community members.
• Demonstrates a commitment to personal wellness and healthy living and serves as a positive role model for children, families, and community members.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Medical Clearance.
Preferred
• Knowledge of Wet’suwet’en culture, history, language, and traditional teachings.
• Experience providing cultural programming, mentorship, or intergenerational learning opportunities.
• Experience working within Indigenous early learning, education, health, or community programs.
