Early Childhood Educator – External Employment Opportunity

Clever Raven AHS is seeking an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) who will work closely with parents and other ECEs to promote a welcoming, supportive, safe environment for parents/caregivers and their children. The ECE will develop, implement and supervise activities in a culturally supportive environment to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social needs of the children within the program while establishing routines for children, providing them with positive guidance and building their self-esteem.

  • Active/Valid Early Childhood Education Certificate, or Infant/Toddler/Special Needs Diploma
  • Food Safe
  • Current Emergency First Aid Community Care
  • Criminal record check
  • At least 2 years recent experience as a certified Early Childhood Educator
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and initiative
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history and culture or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of AHS principles, values and guidelines or willingness to learn 

 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
  • May supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants.
  • Help cook and serve snacks and lunch to the children
  • Clean/ Sanitize the toys/centre
  • Report any unsafe conditions, practices or injuries to their supervisor as soon as possible
  • Set a good safety example and practice H&S policies and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prefer two years minimum directly related experience working with & supervising children, delivering structured curriculum & classes, care and supervision including children with Canadian Aboriginal ancestry
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a passion for dealing with and emotionally connecting with children

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Criminal Record Review successfully completed
  • Immunization record required
  • Valid Food Safety Certificate
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License required
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
