The Aboriginal Head Start Association of BC (AHSABC) is a non-profit society that works to deliver quality early childhood programming that nurtures the healthy development and growth of Indigenous children and their families through the Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) model. This model sees children up to six years of age and their families access culturally appropriate early learning and childcare programs. AHS program models are inclusive of wraparound family supports and offer a care model to support children with diverse abilities and their families.
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with experience/preference working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The OT will work with individual Aboriginal Head Start childcare programs throughout BC to identify and learn the unique needs of children within the various programs. Utilizing these insights, the OT will provide direct support with the children and families as well as supporting the Early Childhood Educators working within the childcare program to consider environmental adaptations and build on strategies for support.
Qualifications:
- Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Occupational Therapists of BC.
- Recent experience in areas related to early childhood development
- Valid BC Driver’s license required
Requirements of Position:
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and ways of being.
- In good standing with College of Occupational Therapists requirements.
- Innovative, creative, and adaptable.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Work collaboratively and effectively within an early childhood environment.
- Work with a small team of early interventionists.
- Travel as required and/or to be determined. Reimbursement is based on Treasury Board rates.
- Physically carry out the duties of the position.
Commitment:
- Time commitment is dependent on availability between 20-30 hours per week. Some weekend and evening hours required to support training and event schedules.
- Schedule is flexible.
Compensation:
- Pay rate is $90 an hour.
