Creative Cooks Session: Making baked & fried Bannock

Fried bannock recipe:

Mix dry:

4 cups flour

2 tablespoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

Then add in :

2 cups warm water

Put 1/2 cup warm water to the side just in case you need more.

Mix Water and dry ingredients together.


  1. Start oil in a deep frying pan or pot. About an inch or two deep with oil. Don’t kneed the bannock too much, just get it mixed enough to hold together.

  2. Get it on the counter with a bit of flour on the counter. Push the bannock down lightly to spread it out to desired thickness.

  3. Cut pieces as big as you’d like and cut two slits on each piece.

  4. Place one bannock into hot oil at a time.

  5. Once it starts to brown on the bottom flip it over with tongs. And then remove once other side is brown too.

  6. Place hot bannocks into a container with paper towel to absorb excess oil.
