Kermode Friendship Society’s AHS is also called Waap Sagayt K’uulm Goot (House of One Heart), a sister to Kermode AHS preschool, located on Tsimshian territory.
We are committed to providing high quality care to the children and families of our community– while instilling a lifelong love of education through play. Families are excited to see their children’s growth, and especially love to attend our family lunches where traditional dishes are served.
Joining our staff is a Cultural Mentor who attends the program for 10 hours a week, sharing Nisga’a language and traditional Cultural teachings. Sm’álgyax, Nisga’a, Haisla, Haida, Michif, and Cree. We share the singing, dancing and drumming of these nations, sharing different types of Regalia. Elders’ visits bring connection to our roots and give new experiences of Culture.
Something special is the involvement of grandparents– we have 4 sets of grandparents and great-grandparents who attend our daycare. They offer support to children and staff by participating in stories, outdoor play, gardening and canning of fruit and jam.
Our Parents Advisory Circle assists in fundraising for our Year-End celebrations, provides families with updates, and information, seeks program input from families.
It is a full-day program for children aged 12 months to 5 years old. Children receive safe and consistent care. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided during program hours.
