skəmxist sncəcmiltn is a new program in Kelowna, hosted by the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society. Nestled on top of a beautiful bird sanctuary, the program location inspires curiosity and fosters a deep connection to nature and wildlife for the children in our care.

Committed to providing exceptional care and support for children and families, the team strives to empower families to embrace and explore their cultural heritage within a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Guided by love, every decision we make reflects our commitment to nurturing connections, celebrating diversity, and fostering a sense of belonging for all. The program has heard families value the warm, home-like atmosphere and support received, in contrast to more institutional childcare settings.

Languages shared in the program include nsyilxcən, Michif, Cree, reflecting the range of families’ nations. The team actively promotes Indigenous language through reading, visual literacy such as signage, prayers and music. Drumming is particularly enjoyed in the infant room. The program chef is also committed to incorporating as many traditional foods into the menu as possible, enriching the cultural experience for everyone.
