Tansi Friendship Centre Society hosts our AHS daycare program in Chetwyn, on Treaty 8 Territory– Woodland Cree, Dane-zaa and Chipewyan.
Our program is committed to culture and land-based teaching, with children outdoors as much as possible, exploring and learning during outdoor activities while preparing the children for kindergarten. Our outdoor play space has a land-based theme.
Our families are mostly Métis parents with some First Nations families. Parents are excited that the children are going home and teaching them the Cree language or cultural activity they learn while in childcare.
Culture is imbedded daily during our routines by staff and children. The program connects children to culture in a holistic approach with learning experiences, physical play, and daily smudging for spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
The Elder’s and Cultural Teachers help with the cultural aspects of the program– language, oral history, drumming, singing, Indigenous crafts and land-based teachings such as learning to harvest medicine.
The Parent Advisory Committee has great fundraising ideas for all parents to be involved with, and parents have input with planning monthly calendar events.
