The Erica Seitcher Childcare Centre is hosted by Kackaamin Family Development Centre, on Tseshaht and Hupacasath territory in Port Alberni.
We are committed to supporting First Nations and Indigenous families through their wellness journey that addresses harms that stem from intergenerational and collective trauma. We provide holistic services to families who attend treatment through a foundation of Culture and connection.
Our families are First Nations and come for six-week treatment sessions to learn about healing from trauma, overcoming addictions, and rebuilding their family circle.
Languages shared in the program include Nuu-chah-nulth and other First Nations wherever possible.
Culture in our program includes drumming, singing, family ceremonies, visiting Elders and learning crafts. Elders and Cultural Teachers visit to provide: Hahuupa (teachings), cedar weaving demo, singing circle, storytelling.
The children are the focus of the community. Parents and caregivers receive teachings throughout the six weeks about healthy parenting through our Nuu-chah-nulth and Indigenous teachings and Circle of Security Parenting program. Our programs aim to ensure secure, safe attachment between children and their caregivers, for our “highest law of Nuu-chah-nulth is the absolute protection of our offspring” (late Alice Paul, Hesquiaht).
As a wellness centre, we offer childcare during sessions, 0- school age, and school age classroom offerings also.
