Treasure Our Young Ones AHS

Treasure Our Young Ones AHS is Hosted by Port Alberni Friendship Centre in Hupacasath and Tseshaht territory, Port Alberni. 

We are committed to teaching and learning Culture and Language with the children, through our two Elders Tuppat and Ciisma– sharing Knowledge on the Culture and Language through stories, songs, dances and traditional foods when we are able. 

We have community come in to share jingle dances, and medicine teachings with Knowledge Keeper Darlene. She takes the children out into the forest picking medicines, teaching them usage along the way, reminding the children to say thank you to the earth. 

Our families are mainly Nuu-chah-Nulth and Métis, and they have expressed they love coming to our open houses, potlucks, and get togethers. We are also committed to helping parents and caregivers have the best knowledge on what our program has to offer and community resources– helping parents and caregivers with application forms, appointments. Having an open-door policy with our parents makes them feel welcome– we’ve heard from caregivers and parents they love getting to know the people working with their children on a more personal level.
